A Subtle Lift For A Striking Difference
The upper face plays a defining role in how we project energy, warmth, and vitality. Over time, gravity and a natural loss of skin elasticity can cause the brow to drift downward, volume loss the eyelids and creating a perpetually tired, heavy, or serious expression. A brow lift, also sometimes called a browplasty, is our surgical solution to gently reposition the forehead tissue and restore the brow to its naturally youthful position. With this procedure, Dr Joseph can lift away the shadows of fatigue and smooth deep-set forehead lines, opening up the eyes to reveal a bright, refreshed, and effortlessly rested appearance.
Quick Facts
The Procedure
The gold standard for modern forehead rejuvenation is an endoscopic brow lift, a minimally invasive procedure that replaces the long ear-to-ear incisions of the past. Through five small incisions hidden behind the hairline, we insert an endoscope, a tiny specialized camera, to view the complex network of muscles and nerves beneath the skin on a high-definition monitor. Guided by this ultra-clear visualization, the muscular attachments pulling the brow downward are released and the brows are gently repositioned along entire forehead tissue matrix. The tissue is then anchored in its new, youthful position using internal dissolving sutures.
No single surgical method fits every face, so we customize our approach to align with your unique facial anatomy and hairline. For patients experiencing drooping at the outer corners of the eyes, a temporal brow lift targets only the outer tail of the brow through small incisions near the temple hairline. Alternatively, for patients with a naturally high or receding hairline, a pretrichial brow lift is performed right along the edge of the forehead. This delicate technique allows us to remove sagging skin and lift the brows without shifting your hairline further back, keeping your facial proportions beautifully balanced.
Recovery
Because Dr Joseph’s advanced surgical techniques prioritize structural lifting over superficial skin pulling, the recovery process is efficient and comfortable. Most patients report a feeling of tightness or temporary scalp numbness, which will subside as the tissues heal. Swelling and bruising around the forehead and eyes typically peak within the first few days and should resolve within one to two weeks. By physically repositioning the deep structural layers of the upper face, a customized brow lift delivers a harmonious, natural-looking result that lasts up to a decade, elegantly turning back the clock.

What to Expect on
Your First Visit
Your first visit with us is a starts as a collaborative consultation. We’ll carefully analyze the external and internal structure between your forehead, brows, and eyelids, observing imbalances, how your features naturally move, and where improvements can be made. Together, we’ll discuss what you’re looking for, explore both surgical and non-surgical options, and answer any questions you may have about the process. Our priority is to give patients a warm, pressure-free environment where you get the expert clarity you need.
Frequently Asked Questions
Not at all. The goal of a modern brow lift is to restore a rested, approachable expression, not a perpetually startled one. That unnatural “surprised” look only occurs when skin is pulled too tight without addressing the deeper structures. Our advanced techniques focus on lifting the deep tissue layers vertically and releasing the specific muscles that are pulling the brow downward, essentially repositioning the brows to a more youthful position. This allows the tissue to settle into a soft, natural arch that moves normally when you laugh, smile, or express emotion.
It’s incredibly common to mistake a drooping brow for excess eyelid skin or a hooded lid, both cause crowding around the eyes and can affect your field of vision. A simple way to check at home is to place your fingers gently above your eyebrows and lift them slightly to where they used to sit. If doing this clears the heavy, hooded skin from your upper eyelids, a brow lift may be your primary solution. If the eyelids remain heavy and draped with excess skin even when the brow is lifted, you may be a better candidate for a blepharoplasty.
Some patients may need a combination of both procedures to achieve a completely refreshed eye area. During your consultation, we’ll asses your facial framework to determine which procedure will work best for your anatomy and specific cosmetic or functional issues.
We prioritize keeping your incisions as discreet and well-hidden as possible. For an endoscopic brow lift, we make three to five tiny incisions (each less than an inch long) placed entirely behind your hairline, making them virtually invisible once healed. If you undergo a temporal brow lift, the small incisions are hidden within the hair at your temples. For patients with higher hairlines where a pretrichial lift is needed, the incision is placed right along the natural boundary of the hairline, so that hair can grow through the scar to camouflage it.
Since modern aesthetics have abandoned the full hairline incision techniques of the past, the recovery process has become much more managable for patients. You can expect some swelling and bruising around the forehead, temples, and occasionally down around the eyes, which typically peaks within the first 3 to 4 days. Most of our patients feel comfortable returning to work, social outings, and light daily activities within 7 to 10 days, once their sutures are removed and any residual bruising can be easily concealed with makeup.
Your comfort is our absolute priority. A brow lift is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under deep sedation or general anesthesia, so you sleep peacefully and feel no discomfort during the procedure. During recovery, most patients describe the sensation as a feeling of tight pressure or mild soreness near the surgical site. This discomfort can be managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication for the first few days. Some temporary numbness or “itching” along the scalp is also normal as the nerves heal.
While a brow lift can’t stop the natural aging process, it effectively sets the clock back by at least a decade or more. Since we’re structurally repositioning the underlying tissue and securing it to the bone, any structural improvements we do are highly durable. You can expect the beautiful, youthful positioning of your brow to last anywhere from 10 to 15 years. Maintaining a dedicated medical-grade skincare routine, practicing diligent sun protection, and utilizing conservative injectable treatments will help prolong your results.
